In connection with the proposals contained herein, it may be stated that the Whampoa Authority is considering the

advisability of dredging a suitable channel wholly in

Chinese waters.

Approximate estimates of the quantity of dredging

necessary in Hong Kong Harbor to secure a channel 70

meters bottom width and of the depths indicated below,

measured below L.L.W.O.S.T. for the two sites are shown in

the following tabulation.

It may be mentioned incidentally that the Whampoa

Authority is proposing to dredge a channel through the

Lintin Bar to a depth of four fathoms.

The value in distance saved to shipping which

requires a greater vessel draught than 18 feet is

indicated by the following tabulation of distances.
